Winter Talks 2020

Saturday 14 March 2020 2-4 pm, Camden Public Library. Local mycologist and author David Spahr will give a presentation on Inonotus obliquus, better known as chaga, an ingredient you have probably seen for sale in products ranging from tea to beer. Come learn about the biology and of this northern fungus and what makes it so special to humans.

CHANGED TO A WEBINAR ON 16 APRIL.  CHECK LIBRARY WEBSITE OR EMAIL FROM MMA.  Saturday 11 April 2020, 2-4 pm, Camden Public Library. Local mycologist and author Greg Marley will give a presentation entitled “Mushrooming Foraging in Maine and New England; Trends, Favorites and Stories”. Mushrooming has taken hold across Maine and the US as people flock to the forest and fields chasing the elusive fantastic fungi. This talk will report on the results of a survey of mushrooms in the Northeast. What is the favorite mushroom for eating and how many mushrooms are on your list. Come add your voice to the conversation.

Cancelled. 🙁. Saturday 25 April 11am to 1pm, Curtiss Library, Brunswick. Biologist and polypore fan Robert Pinette will discuss “Why Names Change.” This presentation will provide insights into problems early mycologists faced with early classification including evolving philosophies and how establishing naming principles over 100 years later had a profound effect on present day nomenclature. A few examples of how molecular techniques are affecting present-day taxonomy will be briefly examined.
